The Central Utility Plant of the Facilities Management Department on the Evanston Campus will be shut down to perform routine annual maintenance beginning Friday, September 4, 2009, at 6:00 p.m.  Normal operations will resume on Monday, September 7, 2009, at 10:00 p.m. (Labor Day weekend).  This shutdown is essential and is scheduled during this period to cause the least inconvenience to occupants of the affected buildings.  There will be no deviation from this schedule.
The exact effect of this shutdown will vary from building to building; but, in general, those buildings normally serviced by the central steam and chilled water system will not have heating or hot water and will have no air conditioning except for science research buildings.  Since very few people will be on campus during this holiday weekend, we will not attempt to identify the specific service reduction for each building.  A more comprehensive notice delineating the impact to the campus research facilities will be provided separately.
If you are planning any event involving campus buildings during this period, we suggest you contact our office via e-mail at facilities-management@northwestern.edu; and we will be glad to provide clarification for your specific case.
