SUMMARY:Wednesdays@NICO Presents: Interference Games in Wireless Networks
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Randall Berry\, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science\, McCormick School of Engineering A key characteristic of wireless networks is that interference occurs between nearby devices that are simultaneously transmitting. If not properly managed interference can result in poor overall performance. As wireless networks evolve\, distributed approaches for mitigating interference are becoming increasingly important. This talk will discuss a number of such approaches in which individual transmitters make local decisions to manage interference. In particular\, we will focus on models that use ideas from game theory and optimization to develop distributed algorithms for managing interference. We first consider protocols in which agents exchange "interference prices" to convey the "cost" of interference to neighbors. In these models all interference is viewed as harmful; we next consider a model motivated by information theory in which this is not always true.   *Please note different location this week.
