Professional Development for Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Fellows
This 2-week series of lectures including 40-minute, one-on-one coaching each week for graduate students in the sciences focuses on the development of presentation skills necessary for success within the professional world. Through short group lectures and one-on-one coaching, each student will receive personalized attention tailored to the realities of professional practice that goes far beyond the basics offered in more general public speaking course offerings.
Participants will leave the course/workshop with increased skills in non-verbal body language and the performance of self; critical listening and storytelling; audience analysis; structuring a clear message through visual design; awareness of physical and vocal qualities; providing constructive feedback; avoiding and overcoming nervousness; thinking on your feet.
