TGS Professional Development Series: Professional and Presentation Skills for Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Fellows in International Studies

This series of lectures and one-on-one coaching for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in focuses on the development of presentation skills necessary for success within the professional world. Through 4 short group lectures and 2 one-on-one coaching sessions, each student will receive personalized attention tailored to the realities of professional practice that goes far beyond the basics offered in more general public speaking course offerings.  Participants will leave the workshop with increased skills in

non-verbal body language and the performance of self; critical listening and storytelling; audience analysis; structuring a clear message through visual design; awareness of physical and vocal qualities; providing constructive feedback; avoiding and overcoming nervousness; thinking on your feet.

When: Workshop meets four times on:  Monday, August 6; Wednesday, August 8; Monday, August 13; and Wednesday, August 15 from 4:00 – 5:00 PM (one-on-one coaching will occur throughout the week)

Where:  Evanston campus, exact room TBD

Audience: Graduate Students and postdoctoral fellows in international studies and related fields
