A City So Real is a performance portraying the divergent stories of Chicago neighborhoods and the people who are inspired by them and enliven them with their wisdom, labor, and ingenuity. A collage of scenes staged throughout the galleries of the Block Museum capture the dialogue, imagery, movement, soundscape, and the rich poetic description of Alex Kotlowitz. As audiences traverse through the museum, they are guided to each scene by stylized enactments representing stories from the book. The performance time is one hour and fifteen minutes with a “Town Hall” exchange after the show, in the Block Auditorium, with the cast and directors. Only 50 audience members will be admitted per show therefore prior reservations are required for each performance. Reservations are made through the ONE BOOK/ONE NORTHWESTERN office.
