“The MESA and CARDIA Urinary Sodium Study”
Sodium intake has been linked with adverse cardiovascular outcomes and mortality. Gold-standard methods to identify an individuals’ sodium excretion require multiple 24-urine collections, which are impractical for large population-based studies. In this talk we will describe the MESA and CARDIA Urinary Sodium Study and discuss our findings on the validity of using a timed spot urine specimens to estimate the population distribution of urinary sodium excretion and individual urinary sodium excretion levels.
