Description:

The Middle East held a number of significant elections in 2014 amid heightened tensions in the region, and continued instability and violence. Turkey and Egypt's presidential elections took place in a climate of increasing polarization and repression, Syria held presidential elections despite an escalating refugee crisis, and Libya's constitutional assembly elections did little to contain the armed violence that goes on unabated between two rival factions. Join us for an open, critical discussion on the implications of electoral politics for the Middle East, domestically and internationally.

Brown Bag Buzz sessions are roundtable discussions among members of the NU MENA community on current events. Organized and hosted by the MENA Graduate Student Group, and held as a part of MENA Monday programming, topics follow and respond to developments in the region.

Please bring a lunch. Light snacks and beverages provided.
