Founded in 2009 in the tradition of its predecessor the Orford String Quartet, the New Orford String Quartet has risen to astonishing success, garnering two Opus Awards for Concert of the Year. Comprised of principal players of the Montreal and Toronto Symphony Orchestras, the quartet has been hailed as "nothing short of electrifying...listen and weep" (Toronto Star). Their debut album, featuring the final quartets of Schubert and Beethoven, was named one of the top CDs of 2011 by La Presse and CBC In Concert and nominated for a JUNO Award in 2012.
