Description:

Title: "3D Printable Biomaterials: New Advances and Future Promise"

Bio

Prof. Ramille N. Shah earned her B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at Northwestern University and her Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering with a specialty in Biomaterials from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her graduate research involved developing gene-supplemented collagen scaffolds for articular cartilage tissue engineering and regenerative medicine at both the MIT and Harvard Medical School campuses. In 2006, she returned to Northwestern as a postdoctoral fellow at what is now the Simpson Querrey Institute (SQI) for BioNanotechnology where she investigated the use of self-assembling peptide amphiphile (PA) systems for musculoskeletal regeneration, as well as developed novel self-assembling PA-biopolymer hybrid structures for a variety of biomedical applications. In 2008, she became a research assistant professor in MSE and held a position as the assistant director for research at SQI. In September 2009 she started her tenure-track assistant professor position with a joint appointment in the Department of MSE and the Department of Surgery at Northwestern. Her research interests include development and characterization of new material inks for 3D printing, 3D printing of tissue engineering scaffolds, musculoskeletal tissue and organ engineering, self-assembling biomaterials, and mechanical stimulation of cells in scaffolding systems. Her work has been published in various high impact journals as well as featured in Crain’s Chicago Business Magazine.
