On Wednesday, November 5 from 11 am to 12:20 pm in Frances Searle Building 3220, Dr. Joseph Amon will visit Prof. Peter Locke’s GH 390, “Health and the Social Markers of Difference,” as a guest instructor. Dr. Amon will discuss the relationship between public health and the protection or violation of human rights in a range of global contexts.

Dr. Amon (http://www.hrw.org/bios/joseph-amon) is an epidemiologist by training. Currently the Director of the Health and Human Rights Division of Human Rights Watch, he also teaches for Princeton University’s Program in Global Health and Health Policy and is an associate in the department of epidemiology at the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. Prior to joining Human Rights Watch, Dr. Amon worked for more than 15 years conducting research, designing programs, and evaluating public health interventions for organizations including Family Health International, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Carter Center.

Interested students and faculty members are welcome and encouraged to visit Prof. Locke’s class on Wednesday to hear Dr. Amon’s remarks and engage in the discussion.
