The internationally acclaimed Renaissance wind band Piffaro brings its exotic menagerie of early instruments for a weeklong campus residency, culminating in a performance of Kile Smith’s 2008 Vespers, inspired by the musical flowering of the Lutheran Reformation. In Smith’s beautifully virtuosic hour-long celebration, traditional chorale tunes are embellished with postmodern counterpoint as ancient instruments meld organically with contemporary harmonies. Presented in collaboration with the Evelyn Dunbar Early Music Festival.
