Description:

Join the Center for Global Health in recognizing World AIDS Day 2014! The event will feature a patient panel discussing what it is like to be living with HIV.  The panel discussion will be moderated by Dr. Shannon Galvin from the Department of Infectious Diseases.  Our featured panelist is long time AIDS advocate, Will Wilson.

Will has been an activist with the HIV/AIDS community since the beginning of the pandemic. Before becoming involved with ACT-UP and marching in the streets he volunteered with several local hospice agencies offering respite care to his friends, neighbors, and their families. With the advent of HAART he shifted his focus to grassroots activities dealing with policy and legislative issues on federal, state, and local levels. He is currently a member of IL ASAP (Illinois Alliance for Sound AIDS Policy), a state-wide grassroots advocacy organization supported by the AIDS Foundation of Chicago. And, for the second year in a row he is an In-Person Counselor with the Affordable Care Act making sure that healthcare is a right for everyone.
