In this 1.5 hour course, a novel understanding of persistent whiplash associated disorders (WAD) will be presented emphasizing an integrated view of the biopsychosocial model of health and pain-related disability. The complex signs and symptoms of WAD bear striking similarities to patients with incomplete spinal cord injury; raising the possibility that chronic WAD is an expression of an initial mild injury to the central nervous system, in at least a subset of patients. This course will present relevant information to assist clinicians in assessing, classifying, and managing patients with acute and chronic neck disorders of non-traumatic origin.
