Workshop Description:
When you ask students to “write a paper” or “analyze a text,” what do you mean? How does someone learn to do these things? This hands-on workshop is designed to help you transform your learning objectives into concrete, step-by-step assignments and lecture models that help students gradually build the techniques they need to excel in the humanities and social sciences. Please come prepared with a syllabus and we will help you develop specific assignments to meet your course goals. This workshop will be particularly relevant to those who plan to teach at non-research intensive institutions.

Workshop Facilitator:
Susan Gaunt Stearns is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Center for Legal Studies. Before earning her PhD in history from the University of Chicago, Susan earned her MAT in secondary education and her BA in history from Yale. She has taught at a variety of institutions, ranging from small liberal arts colleges to high school. At Northwestern, she teaches courses on the American founding and the Constitution. In 2011, she won the University of Chicago’s award for Excellence in Course Design.
