Workshop Description:
Holding an in-class debate always sounds like a great idea...until it flops. This workshop will provide tips and ideas for managing successful student debates in your classroom or discussion section. Come learn how to stage engaging debates that are also effective methods for meeting learning objectives in your class. Several styles and goals for classroom debate will be presented and practiced, followed by a discussion of application and logistics, such as student preparation, teacher facilitation, and class follow-ups.
Workshop Facilitators:
Kate Dugan is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Religious Studies, writing her dissertation on contemporary American Catholics.
Sarah Roth is a fourth-year doctoral student in the English department studying Victorian novels and popular culture.
