Workshop Description:
In order to facilitate discussion, it is key to ask the right questions and build the right environment. In this workshop, we will discuss what makes an open classroom environment and evaluate different question asking techniques for leading a productive discussion. We will offer some alternatives to direct questioning, and participants will devise a plan for what to do when discussion does not go as planned.

Workshop Facilitators:
Janet Bourne is a Ph.D. candidate in Music Theory and Cognition, writing a dissertation on how listeners use the cognitive process of analogy to make sense of musical patterns and infer musical communication.

Gözde Erdeniz is a Ph.D. candidate in Political Science, where she specializes in comparative politics. Her dissertation investigates the factors and processes that lead to intense social polarization over the role of religion in shaping politics and public life in Turkey and Israel.
