Description:

The Department of Pharmacology welcomes you to attend a seminar featuring Minoli Perera, Pharm.D, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Medicine, Section of Genetic Medicine, University of Chicago Department of Medicine.

Dr. Perera's laboratory focuses on the integration of "omic" level datasets (such as genomics and transcriptomics) in African Americans to uncover genetic variation and genes that contribute to cardiovascular and gastrointestinal pharmacogenomic and drug metabolism phenotypes.  Because of the genetic diversity found in African Americans, there are likely population-specific variants that have not been discovered by pharmacogenomic studies in subjects of European ancestry.  This work will ensure inclusion of African Americans in the future advances in personalized medicine.
