The Department of Pharmacology is pleased to announce an upcoming seminar, to be presented by Northwestern’s own, Karl A. Scheidt, Ph.D., Professor of Chemistry, Judd A. & Marjorie Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences.
The following, is an overview of this seminar, as described by Dr. Scheidt:
“Natural products are a unique source of molecular complexity and possess a broad spectrum of biological activity. Fittingly, it is estimated that 70% of approved drugs originated from this special class of small molecules. Our group has synthesized numerous highly biologically active natural products over the last decade. During these investigations, we have uncovered new molecules with unique biological activities, provided a foundation for structure activity relationships, and mechanism of action studies. In this seminar, case studies will be presented that highlight the power of chemical synthesis in the context of therapeutic discovery.”
