Human Genetics and Genomics for Life Science Professionals is a one-day course for pharmaceutical, biomedical, health care, and diagnostic professionals intended to provide a foundation in basic genetics principles and applied advanced technologies.
A limited number of spaces are available for students.
Seminar topics include:
* Fundamentals of Molecular Biology
* Basic Principles of Mendelian Inheritance
* Complex Genetic Traits and Non-Mendelian Inheritance
* Genome-Wide Association
* Next Generation Sequencing and Interpretation
* Epigenomics
* Precision Medicine
Presented by the Graduate Program in Genetic Counseling, Center for Genetic Medicine, and the Center for Pharmacogenomics, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:
* Describe fundamental genetic principles, including basic molecular biology, and Mendelian/non-Mendelian Inheritance
* Discuss the central concepts of population genetics, genetic variants, genome-wide association, next generation sequencing, and epigenomics
* Review recent advances in applied genetics technologies
* Apply a genetics framework to the understanding of complex biologic issues in settings such as pharmaceutical and diagnostic research/development and health care
