Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
1. Interpret the scope and impact of antimicrobial overuse across inpatient, outpatient, and long term care settings in the U.S.
2. Develop effective stewardship messages to target specific audiences: health care professionals, administrators, and the public.
3. Interpret national regulatory changes for antimicrobial stewardship that will likely result from the President’s recent executive order to combat antibiotic resistant bacteria.
4. Apply effective behavior change and quality improvement strategies to impact organizational culture and processes towards optimizing antimicrobial stewardship efforts.
5. Interpret research, computerized decision support, and educational materials that are likely to accelerate acceptance of antimicrobial stewardship practices.
