Teaching and Learning with Wikipedia
How can Wikipedia be used meaningfully to promote learning? In this short workshop, Eryk Salvaggio and Jami Mathewson from the Wiki Education Foundation will explain best practices for using Wikipedia as a tool to enhance learning. Aaron Shaw, Assistant Professor in the Department of Communications Studies at Northwestern, will also discuss his experience using Wikipedia for learning modules and assignments in his classes. Aaron designed these modules as a Searle Center Searle Fellow in 2013-2014. In contributing content to Wikipedia, students gain skills in media literacy, fact-based writing, research, collaboration, and critical thinking. You'll learn how faculty at Northwestern are adopting Wikipedia for their teaching Wiki.Ed can support you and your students in this sort of innovative classroom experience.
