University Teaching Roundtable: Making Connections Between Courses
Undergraduate programs at Northwestern are crafted and refined to allow students a continuous path towards greater knowledge and understanding in their chosen field. However, the quick-term lengths in the quarter system can have a tendency to produce a series of discrete courses where the building of knowledge may not be apparent to students. The negative impacts of this can be seen in waning student motivation and dissatisfaction with courses that are viewed as being disconnected from the greater curriculum. In this roundtable, we will discuss methods for making strong connections between courses and instructors, with the objective of building student motivation and satisfaction.
