Description:

New information on the diagnosis and management of patients with liver disease is being gathered at an accelerating rate. It is difficult for the busy practitioner to separate the novel but unproven idea from information that has a direct impact on daily practice. The hepatitis C epidemic is an example of such conflicting demands, with the physician called to address the immediate needs of patient care while extensive new information is being constantly generated.

This educational program is focused toward healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients with liver disease. In a five-hour session, important information presented at the recent meeting of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases will be reviewed. Ten areas of clinical hepatology will be covered and potential changes in patient management will be discussed. Our guest speaker, Michael Charlton, MD, FRCP, Professor of Medicine and Medical Director of the Intermountain Medical Center of Hepatology and Liver Transplant, will join the Northwestern University faculty on Saturday, November 21, for an informal and interactive discussion.

Program Objectives

After attending this educational activity, participants should be able to:

• Evaluate the importance of new information for the management of patients with liver disease in the office setting
• Assess the impact of new data for the management of patients that are hospitalized with liver disease
