Workshop Description:
From DVDs to YouTube clips, video technology has become a feature of more and more collegiate classrooms. Even outside of film and media studies, videos can serve as historical documents, and to demonstrate concepts, as well as simply to break up the tedium of a lecture. But are we using video technology to its full pedagogical potential? How can we use video not as a crutch, but as a tool to develop critical thinking and visual literacy? How can assignments employ video to encourage class discussion or assess student learning? This workshop explores the possibilities for learning offered by digital video technology across a host of disciplines. Additionally, it covers the basics of using video in the classroom, such as the available software for downloading streaming videos, and troubleshooting for common issues that can waste valuable classroom time.
