Workshop Description:
This seminar will discuss the world of online, for credit education. As more and more colleges move into the online marketplace, learning how to develop an effective online course will be an increasingly necessary skill. While MOOCs may capture headlines, the reality is that the majority of online teaching occurs in much smaller and more hands-on environments. This workshop will discuss different types of online and hybrid classes, and is intended to help graduate students begin to think about the trials and opportunities that online learning presents.

Workshop Facilitators:
Susan Gaunt Stearns is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Center for Legal Studies. Before earning her PhD in history from the University of Chicago, Susan earned her MAT in secondary education and her BA in history from Yale. She has taught at a variety of institutions, ranging from small liberal arts colleges to high school. She has taught a variety of courses, including senior capstones, in an online and hybrid setting, and helped to develop the online materials for a major test preparation company. At Northwestern, she teaches courses on the American founding and the Constitution. In 2011, she won the University of Chicago's award for Excellence in Course Design.
