The shell is a useful operating system to most researchers who are doing any type of programming. The Unix shell is powerful and often the fastest and most direct way to work with files, folders, executing programs, etc. Also, most programmers operate in this OS, due to the simplicity and control over the system. In this tutorial, you will be introduced to the command line and learn basic commands. You are encouraged to bring your laptop to join along. If you are a Windows user and do not have a command line editor, you will want to install X-Win32.
The Computational Skills for Informatics (CSI) Seminar is a series of presentations and hands-on workshops for Northwestern researchers designed to offer insight on topics relevant to bioinformatics and large dataset management and computation. It's hosted in collaboration with Galter Health Sciences Library, NUCATS, and Northwesetern University Information Technology.
