"The Alto laboratory takes a multidisciplinary approach encompassing molecular, cellular, and structural biology to interrogate the function of bacterial Type III and Type IV secreted effector proteins that regulate mammalian immunological responses. New directions in the laboratory have revealed host enhancers and restriction factors that target bacterial infection at the single cell level. Together, these studies aim to elucidate the molecular basis of host-pathogen interactions at multiple levels of resolution."
