Description:

Microbiology-Immunology Seminar Series

"This seminar will focus on how innate immune cells, particularly neutrophils, influence the growth of Yersinia pseudotuberculosis and how Yersinia pseudotuberculosis combats the bactericidal effects of these cells. Neutrophils and macrophages use a variety of strategies to recognize and combat bacterial and viral infections. Yersinia is primarily an extracellular pathogen that is recognized by the innate immune system but is able to efficiently combat these bactericidal strategies using a number of mechanisms such that the bacteria can largely negate these actions. Curiously, however, neutrophils do influence the dynamics of how the bacterial microcolonies are formed and grow within tissues."
