"RNA is arguably the most functionally diverse biologically macromolecule, due in part to its ability to fold into complex 3-D structures. Viruses use folded RNA to manipulate their host cells; in fact, the viral world is certainly the largest repository of unexplored structured RNAs with novel function. These RNAs are weapons used within the constant and ancient “molecular warfare” occurring between viruses and hosts. In this presentation, I will focus on efforts to understand the structure of a novel viral RNA, how this structure confers function, and how this information can be exploited."
