As co-director of the Meharry-Vanderbilt Community-Engaged Research Core in the Vanderbilt Institute for Clinical and Translational Science, Dr. Consuelo Wilkins brings together academic researchers and community members to improve community health and healthcare through community-engaged research. Dr. Wilkins is widely recognized for her work in stakeholder engagement and is Principal Investigator of a Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Research Award focused on Improving Patient Engagement and Understanding its Impact on Researc
Co-presenting is Kimberly Jackson, MS founder of HIDE (Health Impacts of Degraded Environments). At HIDE, Ms. Jackson conducts research and capacity building, focusing on efforts to ensure that as she put it, “low income housing is also healthy housing.” Her primary focus has been low-income asthmatic patients and the health impacts they face in their efforts including investigating homes and the exposures residents face. She engages in partnerships with the Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance, Tennessee State university, Meharry Medical College and non-profit organizations in the area.
