"The complement system is a key arm of innate immune defenses against several pathogens. Work in my lab has elucidated how the pathogenic Neisseriae (N. gonorrhoeae and N. meningitidis) escape killing by complement. This knowledge is being used to design novel immunotherapeutics against N. gonorrhoeae, which has become resistant to almost every conventional antibiotic currently in clinical use."
