Learning Objectives:
1. Define substituted judgment and describe practical challenges in its application..
2. Discuss ethical concerns that can arise when there is conflict between the team and surrogate decision-makers..
3. Describe negotiation skills and techniques that can be effective to relieve tensions with surrogates, while reducing ethical harms.
