Workshop Description:

Evaluation plays a critical role in improving professional and pedagogical development. Yet teaching evaluations come in many forms, from informal student feedback to more formal institutional evaluations. They can be used to gauge student understanding and engagement and can help the instructor be self-reflective and adaptive in their teaching methods. This workshop covers different ways in which educators can use evaluations at different times in their course to achieve different pedagogical objectives. We provide participants with tools for thinking about the larger purpose of evaluations but also give more practical advice on how to incorporate them throughout a course.

Workshop Facilitators:

Hayley is a sixth-year PhD candidate in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. Her dissertation uses rat whiskers as a model to study the statistics of sensory data acquisition and tactile perception.

Sidra is a fifth-year PhD candidate in the Political Science department. Her research focuses on the distinction between “nuclear” and “non-nuclear” states and how this distinction is legally and socially-constructed through an examination of the cases of Iran, Israel, and India.

*This workshop part of CIRTL at Northwestern which serves graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to improve undergraduate learning in STEM.
