Workshop Description:

Keeping students engaged in class is a challenging task for any instructor. Employing active learning strategies can help increase student engagement, promote collaboration, and help the instructor assess learning. This workshop will introduce participants to active learning strategies and discuss how to design active learning lessons for different types of classroom environments (either a large lecture or smaller lab section).

Workshop Facilitators:

Elliot is a fifth-year PhD candidate in Plant Biology and Conservation. His specializes in evolution of flowering plants, and his dissertation focuses on pollination and domestication in the breadfruit genus (Artocarpus), a group of trees with a center of diversity in Borneo.

Katherine is a PhD candidate in Communication Sciences and Disorders, investigating what strategies listeners use in speech comprehension and how these behaviors change in difficult listening environments.

*STEM Workshops are part of CIRTL at Northwestern which serves graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to improve undergraduate learning in STEM.
