Workshop Description:
Part of creating an inclusive classroom environment requires that instructors pay particular attention to the way discussions are structured. In this workshop, we will reflect upon different techniques to balance classroom dynamics on a course design level with conversations on how to recognize and respond to issues that may arise during classroom interactions. By the end of this session, participants will have identified and discussed power issues that appear in classroom discussions and design strategies to alleviate disruptive comments and emphasize collaborative dialogues.
Workshop Facilitators:
Sean is a doctoral candidate in History who specializes in the U.S.-Mexico borderlands and environmental history.
Zach is a PhD candidate in Sociology.
