Description:

Spanish clarinetist Jose Franch-Ballester has been hailed by the New York Times for his “technical wizardry and tireless enthusiasm.” He is the recipient of a 2008 Avery Fisher Career Grant and winner of both the Young Concert Artists and Astral Artists auditions. Franch-Ballester has appeared with the BBC Concert Orchestra, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and at New York’s 92nd Street Y, and at festivals including Music@Menlo, Mainly Mozart, and Chamber Music Northwest. He is the founder and artistic director of miXt, an ensemble of award-winning soloists from the Young Concert Artists roster. A proponent of new music, he regularly collaborates with such composers as Paul Schoenfield, Edgar Meyer, and William Bolcom, and in 2004 he performed the world premiere of Jake Heggie’s Winter Roses with mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade at Camerata Pacifica.
