Soloist, collaborative artist, curator, and new-music advocate Claire Chase has earned acclaim from the New York Times for her “extravagant technique, broad stylistic range, and penetrating musicality.” A 2012 MacArthur Fellow and a 2015 American Composers Forum Champion of New Music Award recipient, Chase returns to campus as an Institute for New Music visiting artist to perform Chicago premieres of solo works written for her by New York composers Tyshawn Sorey and Suzanne Farrin as well as a new work by Chicago-based composer Anthony Cheung for Chase and the Spektral Quartet. The program concludes with the world premiere of an excerpt from an immersive new 90-minute work by Northwestern alumnus Marcos Balter, scored for acting-singing flutist and mass community participation.
