Each Spring, the Association of Northwestern University Women (ANUW, a professional development group for women staff members) invites a high-profile woman at Northwestern to tell her career story, or pathway to success.

For our 2017 Pathways to Success event we welcome Gloria S. Graham, Assistant Vice President and Deputy Chief of Police for Northwestern University.

Gloria Graham began serving as the Assistant Vice President for Police Services & Deputy Chief of Police for Northwestern University in September 2015. She is responsible for police and security operations for both the Evanston and Chicago campuses. In addition Gloria serves as the chief deputy for the Associate Vice President and Chief of Police and assists with oversight of their portfolio.

Prior to her tenure at Northwestern, Gloria was Assistant Vice President and Assistant Chief of police at the University of Chicago. While there she oversaw the department gaining independence from the Chicago Police Department and attaining full-service status. Gloria also led the CALEA accreditation efforts and was instrumental in the department’s successful attainment of advanced CALEA accreditation.

Throughout her 21-year career Gloria has been enlisted as a change agent to lead organizations through transition. Gloria served as the first female Chief of Police for the University of Tennessee flagship campus in Knoxville Tennessee. She was also the Assistant Chief of Police with Duke University and held senior level management positions with the University of Southern California and Florida Atlantic University Police Department. She began her campus law enforcement career in her hometown of Terre Haute IN with Indiana State University.

Gloria holds a Bachelor of Arts in Justice Studies from North Carolina Wesleyan University and a Masters in Leadership Development from St. Mary of the Woods College. She and her daughter Aliyah live in Evanston, Illinois.
