About the Speaker:
Dr. Yu received a Bachelor of Medicine degree from Beijing Medical University in 1998 and a Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Michigan in 2004. She was subsequently trained as a postdoctoral fellow with HHMI investigator Dr. Arul M. Chinnaiyan at the University of Michigan. Supported by a K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award from the NIH and a New Investigator Award from the DOD Dr. Yu joined the faculty at Northwestern University to start out her independent research career in 2009. Her research uses genomic and bioinformatic approaches to study the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms underlying prostate cancer. Hormonal regulation of gene expression by the androgen receptor and its cofactors are of particular interest. Ultimately, her group aims to develop novel biomarkers for prostate cancer diagnosis/prognosis and new therapeutic strategies for the treatment of end-stage prostate cancer. Dr. Yu was promoted to the rank of full Professor with tenure in 2017. Dr. Yu served as the Chair of the Women Faculty Organization at Feinberg from 2015-2017 and is passionate about promoting the career development of women faculty and nurturing a community with diversity and equality.
