STEM teaching takes on many different forms, from large lectures to smaller office hours. Some settings (i.e., lab sections) are especially conducive to active learning, in which students are encouraged to engage with classroom content through problem solving and direct synthesis of materials. However, certain situations may not lend themselves as easily to an active learning environment because the materials have traditionally been taught via rote lecturing. In this workshop, participants will experience hands-on utilization of active learning techniques for both small and large classroom settings and will leave with a new toolbox of active learning techniques to apply in their own classrooms.
