Description:

On December 4-5, 2017, the City of Chicago will host the first North American Climate Summit, organized by the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy. The aim is to articulate municipal commitments to the Paris Agreement, and to celebrate innovative and effective city climate efforts.

In this spirit of engagement, The Field Museum and its partners are convening a Chicago Community Climate Forum on the eve of the Mayors’ Summit. Focusing on strengthening communities, finding the intersections between climate and wellbeing, and taking action on climate, the Forum will be the first moment in building a broad, long-term movement in the Chicago region. The evening will culminate in the signing of a Chicago Agreement on Climate and Community, with broad principles on how to take action on climate solutions. The Chicago Agreement, which echoes and reflects the global Paris Agreement on climate change, will come from a uniquely Chicago region perspective, espousing a shared vision for a pathway forward, and committing individuals, neighborhoods, and organizations to future actions.
