Stephen Alltop, conductor; David Douglass, violin
This program of delightful, little-known gems of the early classical period includes Johann Christian Bach’s Bassoon Concerto in B-flat. The ensemble ventures off the beaten track with infrequently performed works by Joseph Haydn, including the overture to Il ritorno di Tobia, the Concerto for Violin and Harpsichord in F Major, and the sprightly Symphony No. 33 in C Major. Experience these lovely hidden treasures as played by an ensemble proportioned like Haydn’s own orchestra at Eszterháza.
