The Institute for Sexual and Gender Minority Health and Wellbeing (ISGMH)'s third annual Symposium focuses on the intersection between racial and ethnic minorities and sexual and gender minority populations. Research and community experience show that these populations experience numerous discrimination, oppression and health disparities. Those who identify as a sexual or gender minority, and as a person of color, can experience these disparities in compounding ways. For example, transgender women of color and black gay men are at high risk for poor health outcomes, and there is a staggering disparity between their health outcomes and that of their heterosexual, cisgender and white peers. The objective of this Symposium is to identify areas where research can directly improve the health and wellbeing of ethnic, racial, sexual and gender minorities.
