Are you interested in medicine but not sure which path to take?  Want to be a doctor but wondering if you have what it takes? Want to work with patients but not interested in medical school?  Come meet with and hear from our alumni who have pursued different medical paths. 

Lunch will be provided.  Registrationi will open in early September.

Alvin Bisarya, MD, VP, Kaplan’s Health and Nursing Strategic Partnerships. Alvin is focused on delivering Kaplan’s deep expertise in the science of learning to solve the training needs of large employers, with a specific focus on Allied Health and Nursing professionals. Alvin earned his B.Sc. From Brown University and his M.D. from Northwestern’s Feinberg School of Medicine. In previous roles, Alvin was Vice-Chancellor of Strategy at the City Colleges of Chicago, responsible for leading system-wide efforts to significantly improve student outcomes, and was an Engagement Manager at McKinsey and Company, focusing on serving providers and payors in the private, public, and non-profit sectors.

Paul Checchia, M.D., (’89, English) serves as Medical Director of the Pediatric Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. Additionally, he is Professor of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and Pediatric Cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine. He specializes in critical care of children with heart disease.

Jennifer Hrabe, MD, graduated with a major English and minor in Women’s Studies in 1997. She began working at a local company but after several years returned to NU and completed the medical school pre-requisites. She then matriculated to the University of Minnesota medical school in Minneapolis, followed by a General Surgery residency at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, and ultimately a fellowship in Colorectal Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. Following an additional year as staff at the Cleveland Clinic, she returned to the University of Iowa where she specializes in colon and rectal surgery.

Uday Mehta, MD Grew up in a small town, Harrisburg, IL, and graduated from Northwestern University in 1993 with a major in Economics. Dr. Mehta attended Medical school at Rush University Medical College then his radiology residency at Georgetown University Hospital and fellowship at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University. Uday is the Senior Staff Radiologist at ENH/NorthShore University Health Systems and an Assistant Professor in the Dept of Radiology at University of Chicago.
