This presentation will provide a description of a new professional career path for people holding a PhD in the sciences. The position is director/manager of a core facility, a laboratory with highly specialized instrumentation and expertise for operating it safely, accurately and in a cost-effective manner. The position requires a blending of three skill sets: tech-savvy, people-friendly and business-wise. The presentation will describe examples at Northwestern and elsewhere of career opportunities in this up and coming discipline. Postdoctoral fellows and graduate students are welcome to attend.
