Description:

This series of lectures and one-on-one coaching for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows focuses on the development of presentation skills necessary for success within the professional world. Through 4 short group lectures and 2 one-on-one coaching sessions, each student will receive personalized attention tailored to the realities of professional practice that goes far beyond the basics offered in more general public speaking course offerings. Participants will leave the workshop with increased skills in:
• non-verbal body language and the performance of self
• critical listening and storytelling
• audience analysis
• structuring a clear message through visual design
• awareness of physical and vocal qualities
• providing constructive feedback
• avoiding and overcoming nervousness
• thinking on your feet

When: Workshop meets three times on Monday August 4, Monday August 11, and Wednesday August 13 from 4-5:30 each day (one-on-one coaching to be scheduled with each participant)

Where: Chicago Campus, Wieboldt Hall (exact room TBA)
