Northwestern University Dance Program presents award-winning choreographer Darrell Jones who will present a Sissy Vogue VOP dance workshop on Friday October 17th and 24th from 4:00-6:00 P.M. in the Ballroom Studio Theatre in the Marjorie Ward Marshall Dance Center, 10 Arts Circle Drive. DJ Swaguerilla will providing live spinning. All are invited to participate in one or both workshops!
Jones is a two-time Bessie Award winner and received a 3Arts Award in 2014. He will also serve as a guest choreographer for Northwestern's Danceworks 2015: Ties That Bind.
This workshop will borrow from the aesthetics of voguing to investigate extreme physicality, "fierceness of attack," and attitude as an approach to movement. Exercises derived from the voguing culture such as dips, twirls, and spins are used to connect poses and postures in large athletic phrases that express the physical poetics of battling gracefully.
