Sean Kelsey (Notre Dame University)
Title: "Aristotle’s soul"
Bio
Sean Kelsey has a BA from Thomas Aquinas College and a PhD in Philosophy from Princeton University. He has taught at Iowa State University, UCLA, and the University of Michigan; he is currently an associate professor at the University of Notre Dame. He has published articles on Aristotle and Plato.
Short summary
Aristotle represents previous views about what the soul is as dictated by views about what the soul must be if animals are to move and perceive. He regards all of these views as hopeless, which raises the question: what does he himself think the soul must be, if animals are to move and perceive? This is the question I will focus on, with special attention on perception.
