Diversity and Inclusion in the STEM Classroom
How can we create STEM classrooms that respect and affirm the diverse experiences of students? In this workshop, we will discuss resources and strategies for creating an inclusive learning environment, as well as reflect on a range of student experiences in STEM classes. Participants will question assumptions about traditional teaching and learning approaches in STEM, and consider how instruction, interaction, and classroom context might privilege some students over others. Additionally, participants will analyze an activity or classroom format they have either experienced as a student or used as an instructor, and work to develop an alternative version in light of our discussions.
