Description:

Join IS & Poli Sci ('13) Alumnus, Roy White at this Global Cafe event,
"From Paper to Practice: Perspectives on Hong Kong’s Pro-Democracy Movement, Work Overseas, and Refugee Law"

If you are at all interested in democratic development in Hong Kong and China, refugee law, working abroad, working at a law firm, and/or the international studies honors program, then this is the talk for you! As a political science and international studies double major at Northwestern, Roy studied Hong Kong’s mass protest culture for his honors thesis before packing his bags and moving overseas to work at the Hong Kong office of a UK law firm. A couple protests and more than a couple office all-nighters later, Roy has since returned to the U.S. to work at the National Democratic Institute in Washington D.C., designing programs to develop democratic institutions in China, Hong Kong, and Indonesia. Come listen to his reflections on getting tear-gassed in Hong Kong, interviewing refugee clients, and navigating Northwestern’s undergraduate curriculum, amongst other things.

Dinner provided! RSVP to Sarah at international-studies@northwestern.edu
